Timings to two trains operating between Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram will change from August 21 to September 13.

This is due to the track maintenance work to be taken up by Southern Railway in the Kottayam section between Etumanur and Tiruvalla stations of Thiruvananthapuram Division during this period, except on Fridays and Saturdays.

Thiruvananthapuram :Twelve coaches of Malabar Express towards Mangalore were derailed at Karukutty, near Aluva on the wee hours of Sunday.

All passengers were safe and they were taken to Thrissur by bus, said Railways. The incident happened at 2.30 am between Angamaly and Iringalakuda. Fissures on the track is said to be reason and officials said a high level inquiry would be conduxted.

Train service to this route has been disrupted it would take at least eight hours to clear it. Some of the trains in this route have either stopped its service at Ernakulam or cancelled.more

Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu, on Sunday inaugurated the country's first Green Train Corridor in Chennai.

All the trains running on this section have bio-toilets. This has eliminated human defecation on the tracks.

The project is an initiative by the Indian Railways to create rail corridors with zero human discharge by fitting trains with bio-toilets.

While launching the project between Rameswaram and Manamadurai areas in Tamil Nadu, Prabhu said the government aims to fit all coaches in the country with bio-toilets by September 2019.
