Indian Railway

The Indian Railways are a truly outstanding establishment. It is a global giant that operates profitably, effectively. Railways were first set up in India in 1853 from Bombay to Thane. In 1951 the systems were nationalized as one unit. Indian state-owned enterprise owned and run by the Government of India through the Ministry of Railways. It is one of the world's largest railway networks comprising daily passenger carrying capacity 21million and track length 1, 14,000 km. Annual freight carrying capacity 1 billion.

Fact about Indian Railway
Indian Railway operates long distance and suburban rail systems with a several gauge network of broad, meter and narrow gauges. It also owns locomotive and coach production facilities at several stations in India and are assigned codes identifying their gauge, kind of power and type of operation. Their operation covers twenty eight states and seven union territories and also provides limited international services to Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Indian Railways is the world's ninth largest commercial or utility employer, by number of employees.

IR carries a vast assortment of commodities ranging from mineral ores, agricultural produce, oil, milk and vehicles. Seaport and major urban areas have their own dedicated freight lines and yards. IR is managed under several types like;

- Crew Management, Safety Information Management System (SIMS), Management Information System (MIS) Train Management System (TMS).

Crew Management system: - Crew Management System (CMS) is a unique organization in which accuracy and monitoring are automatically preserved.

- CMS at present holds a database covering 89,000 crew members and near about 30000 crew members are being reserved daily through the organization.
